Puzzle of the Day

Tuesday, March 24

Today I've got two questions inspired by looking in my spice cabinet. Feel free to answer one or both.

  1. What verb can mean to ponder without haste or to heat a drink (such as cider) with sugar and aromatics such as cloves, cinnamon, and orange peel?
  2. What verb can mean to comb (a horse) or to flavor with a blend of pungent spices, and is also part of a phrase meaning to seek favor by flattery?

Check back tomorrow for the answer, a shoutout to all the solvers, and a new puzzle!

Yesterday's puzzle:

Wolf, snow, worm, pink, flower, strawberry, buck, sturgeon, harvest, hunter, beaver, cold: these are the names of what? Any of these might be super, and once in a while there's a blue one, too.

Hint (highlight to view): Why are there 12 (but sometimes an extra)?

Answer:

These are names for the full moons in each month of the year. A lunar month is only 29.5 days, so occasionally a calendar month will have two full moons; the second is called a blue moon.
